Indonesia Rainfall Variations in Association with ENSO (Erwin Mulyana) 発表要旨 :
Indonesia is a maritime continent, wich is surrounded by two continents, Asia and Australia, and two oceans, Indian and Pacific Ocean. Climate condition over Indonesia are affected by global phenomena such as Asian and Australian monsoon, El Nino and local variables which are related to local topographies. The annual cycle is dominant in Java rainfall, with maximum in boreal winter and minimum in boreral summer. A normalized rainfall index for period 1961-1993 was constructed from 21 stations in Java. The highest correlation between Java Rainfall Index (JRI) and Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) is found in September-November season. During this season positive anomaly in Java rainfall is associated with negative anomaly of sea surface temperature in Central Equatorial Pacific. In El Nino event, when the warming of sea surface temperature occures in Central Equatorial Pacific, rainfall in Java is decreased. Throuhgout the year, westerly anomaly at 850 hPa over equatorial Indian Ocean and Indonesia region is associated with positive anomaly in Java rainfall. During December-February, in addition to the westerly anomaly as mention above, anomalous northerly over South China Sea is associated with positive anomaly in Java rainfall.
