SPARC Reanalysis Intercomparison Project (S-RIP)
The SPARC Reanalysis Intercomparison Project (S-RIP)
is a coordinated activity
- to compare all (or some of the newer)
reanalysis data sets for various key diagnostics,
- to understand the causes of the differences,
- to use the results to provide guidance on appropriate usage of
various reanalysis products in scientific studies, and
- to connect such activities with future improvements of
the reanalysis products
by establishing a collaborative link between the reanalysis centres
and the SPARC community.
S-RIP has a close connection with the
SPARC Data Assimilation activity.

In June 2011, an idea of the S-RIP was first discussed at the 8th
SPARC Data Assimilation workshop at Brussels.
In February 2012, the S-RIP was officially endorsed
by the SPARC Scientific Steering Group.
In July 2012, the S-RIP working group was formulated.
On 29 April-1 May 2013,
S-RIP Planning Meeting
has been held at the Met Office, Exeter, UK.
