南極沿岸ポリニヤにおける海氷生産量の見積もり (田村 岳史) 発表要旨 :

  
 　南極沿岸ポリニヤは、主に風によって海氷が運ばれることが原因で出現し維持され 
 る。そのため、ここでは冬季を中心に海氷が活発に生産されている。この沿岸ポリニ 
 ヤにおける海氷生産は南極の海氷総生産に対してのみならず、ブライン排出による塩 
 分生産によって、南極底層水形成に対しても重要な役割を果たしていると考えられて 
 いる。しかしながら、現場観測が極めて難しい海域であるため、海氷生産・塩分排出 
 に関して、定量的には明らかになっていない。そこで本研究では、SSM/Iのマイクロ 
 波放射計データを用いて沿岸ポリニヤ領域を判定し、気象データを用いて熱収支計算 
 を行うことによって、海氷生産量を見積もることにした。 
 　本研究の解析結果において最も注目すべきはウェッデル海沿岸での海氷生産の少な 
 さである。ここは南極底層水生産二大地域の一つと言われてきた。しかし今回の熱収 
 支計算から、ローカルには、高密度水形成に不可欠な海氷生産があまり盛んでないと 
 いうことが示唆された。それに対してロス海や東南極のいくつかの地域においては、 
 海氷生産が非常に大きく、ローカルに高密度水形成が盛んに行われていることが示唆 
 される。

 An estimate of sea ice production in coastal polynyas in the Antarctic Ocean

 It is widely recognized that Antarctic coastal polynyas are sites of high 
 ice production and are responsible for a formation of the Antarctic bottom 
 water (AABW). In this study, we estimate sea ice production in coastal 
 polynyas from the heat flux calculation. The heat flux is calculated by 
 using ECMWF, OISST, ISCCP data, and sea ice concentration data from SSM/I. 
 The results show that active ice production areas are confined to near the 
 coast, and the Ross Sea and several regions in East Antarctica are active 
 areas of sea ice production. It is noted that the Weddell Sea is not an 
 active production area from the heat flux results, although it is believed 
 to a site of AABW formation area.
