An ENSO-less world - how the fluctuations in equatorial Indian (Saji N. Hameed) 発表要旨 :

It must be difficult to imagine a world without ENSO. However, exploiting
certain statistical relations, we can mathematically construct such a
world. For this talk I used linear regression to filter out ENSO from the
world climate. Besides other things this gives us an idea of the locations
where ENSO affects climate most. In this ENSO-less world, I will
statistically perturb the Walker circulation in the equatorial Indian
Ocean. This exercise leads to very interesting results. Especially
noteworthy is the SST variability in the North Pacific off the coast of
Japan. It appears that Walker Circulation changes in the equatorial Indian
Ocean is associated with about 20% to 30% of the SST variability in this
region. The associated atmospheric circulation changes will also be
presented. The first impression is that of extratropical teleconnections
fuelled by perturbation of the convective heat source in the equatorial
Indian Ocean. Significant variability in the Jet stream trajectories at
the jet exit regions of the Pacific and Atlantic oceans are noted. I would
like to discuss these results with you and benefit from your comments and
suggestions. This presentation is based solely upon analysis of observed
 and reanalysis data sets.
