超伝導サブミリ波リム放射サウンダ(SMILES)で観測された成層圏オゾンの日変化 \\Diurnal ozone variations in the stratosphere revealed in observations from the Superconducting Submillimeter-Wave Limb-Emission Sounder (SMILES) on the International Space Station (ISS) \\(坂崎貴俊 \\Takatoshi Sakazaki)発表要旨 :

Stratospheric ozone is a significant component of the Earth’s environmental system, as it contributes to the radiative balance in the middle atmosphere, and protects the surface from solar ultraviolet radiation. Since the discovery of the ozone hole, stratospheric ozone has been extensively investigated over the last 30 years; however, the global structure of diurnal variations in stratospheric ozone remains unclear, particularly for the lower to middle stratospheric ozone that mainly contributes to total column ozone. The Submillimeter-Wave Limb-Emission Sounder (SMILES) attached to the Japanese Experiment Module (JEM) on board the International Space Station (ISS) made exceptionally precise global measurements of stratospheric ozone at various local times, with the aid of superconducting mixers cooled to 4 K by a compact mechanical cooler. Mainly using SMILES datasets, as well as data from nudged chemistry-climate models (MIROC3.2-CTM and SD-WACCM), we investigated diurnal variations in stratospheric ozone. We here show that the SMILES, for the first time, observationally revealed the global pattern of diurnal ozone variations throughout the stratosphere, which are found to be explained by photochemistry and dynamics with the analysis of the two nudged chemistry-climate models. The peak-to-peak difference in stratospheric ozone profiles (total column ozone) may be up to 8% (1%) over the course of a day; this magnitude might affect the past ozone trend deduced with Sun-synchronous datasets from different local times which was reported to have a magnitude of a few % per decade.
